What are Your Favorite Mobile Apps?

I thought it might be fun during the year’s final holiday period to share thoughts on our favorite mobile applications.

I’ll kick it off with my favorites:

  • iPod Touch: Safari Browser, Appigo Todo
  • Pocket PC: PhatPad, Pocket Informant
  • Palm: the built-in PIM apps
  • BlackBerry: Gmail for BlackBerry

I’d love to hear your favorites.

For the iPhone: Pandora, Evernote, eWallet, and AeroWeather. An app called iBird may be my next purchase even though I am the most casual bird watcher.

Oh and Happy New Year to you. :)

Thanks John. I hear so many good things about Evernote that I guess I should go ahead and load it on my Touch.

    Bruce,

I’m using the following main programs (there are some others, but these are the ones I use most often) on Ipaq 2495 WinMo 5: AutoClean, OliveTree Bible Reader, Daynotez (for journaling type information), HanDBase (for database info such as mileage for business, work week hours and notes, secure database for passwords, shopping list, travel list, etc), iLauncher + Today, TCPMP, Total Commander, Word Mobile, SKTools, Spb Backup, PocketXpdf.

Looking at purchasing Phatnotes Outlook since they have a terrific sale going on – want to keep Outlook intact, otherwise would probably get Phatnotes 5.3.

As mentioned, there are others, but this may be “too much information” already.

Question: (if I recall correctly, you have a t-mobile Dash) – are/were you able to sync two winmo devices to outlook? I’m thinking of picking up a Dash to use as a phone along with the Ipaq and would like to be able to synchronize both, though Ipaq will continue to be main PDA. I like the larger screen for web browsing, email, etc and it has faster processor and more storage (CF & SD).

Happy New year! I enjoy reading your site, though I haven’t left many comments recently

That’s a great list of apps, pritchett4, and it’s great to hear from you again. BTW, before I forget it, Happy New Year to you, too!

I do not recall having any problems syncing my Dash between two Windows machines … I do not recall ever having any serious problems doing that with any of my WinMo devices. It gets trickier though when trying to keep sync between a Mac and Windows machine. I stopped using my Dash about a year or so ago, when I canceled my T-Mobile contract. It made no sense to me to continue to pay for T-Mobile plus AT&T, with me being retired and do very little travel, so I gave up T-Mobile since their receptivity is not as good in my area as AT&T is (shame, because their pricing is great). So, I am stretching my memory to really remember the experiences I had with it, but I don’t think I had any sync problems, except to my Mac.

I did not use the PhatNotes Outlook software, though. I used the PhatNotes pro version, on one machine only, and it only imports Outlook data, and does not sync it. So, I do not know how it would go trying to sync PhatNotes Outlook between two computers. That is an irresistible deal they have right now, though, with everything selling for $10. They have really good software.

In reading back through your comment, before hitting the submit button, I see you are talking about using two Windows Mobile devices. I have done that before, and I do not recall any problems in doing it, but it has been a while since I have done it. I can say that I did not have good luck using both a WinMo device and a Palm device … that got messy. It almost worked but there are some differences in fields in their PIM databases, and they tended to get out of sync.

Thanks for the comment. I think you’ll like the Dash. I enjoyed mine.

    Bruce,

Thanks for your response – looks like I overlooked the go-to program – Pocket Informant 2007. I haven’t upgraded to PI8 yet, not sure if there is enough different. But I do have a number of custom views to try and help me with GTD type setup.

Thanks for comments on Dash – I will be watching eBay for a decent unit.

pritchett4, it is easy to overlook PI because we all take it for granted. BTW, I never upgraded to version 8, either. The older I get, the more I stick with “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” and PI 7 worked fine for me.

Good luck with the Dash. If you don’t find one in a reasonable amount of time, let me know. I still have mine, but it has been laying around for a year without being charged, so I am leery about offering it up to you unless you can’t find one at a decent price.

A bit late to the discussion, but here goes. On the iPhone, Appigo’s Todo and Notebook, eReader, eWallet, BeeJive IM, Twittelator Pro, and Gazette.

And I miss my Palm. :) As I’ve been mentioning, I really miss the Palm’s PIM apps. No one has done them quite like Palm. Hoping that the new Palm Pre and WebOS will be the solution I’ve been looking for…

Good list Thomas. I miss the Palm PIM apps, too. They are definitely the best apps for implementing GTD.
