There is a program that allows jailbroken idevices to be accessed from a computer. It's called Veency. I don't know of any non jailbroken apps that allow this though.

There's an app called Bowtie that lets you control the Music Playing part of your iPod from your Mac or PC. I haven't seen an app that has more general control capabilities, though. Not much demand for it, I suppose.

This app and tutorial is great! I didn't think it would be so simple to do this, but I was running my mac from my iPod, complete start to finish in under 30 seconds!

I must admit I LOVE my iPod and this is just another thing that it can do that amazes me!

Thanks for the tutorial!

Great post. I am gonna try this one. Would love to access the macbookpro from anywhere, only concern would be we have to keep it awake all the time.

By the way, there saw many ppl trying to figure how to press some key combinations like command key + other keys or just wanting to use ipod\iphone as a remote for while watching movies\videos. I would like to recommend Logitech Touch Mouse app for this. You can use the ipod touchscreen as a mouse to your pc\Mac and there is onscreen keyboard option too with even the command, option and control keys present. Its free and doesn't require any extra hardware. Just install the free app from appstore on your ipod\iphone and the logitech iTouch server for your pc\mac and its all set.
