The Most Satisfying Professions

This morning, CNN Headline News flashed on the TV screen a listing of the top 5 most satisfying professions. Later in the day, I tried finding the listing again, but could only find the survey results from last year:

  1. Clergy
  2. Firefighters
  3. Physical therapists
  4. Authors
  5. Special education teachers

Although I cannot recall the results for this year with certainty, I think the only difference is in the number 4 slot, where this year’s result is Architect.

What pleases me about this list is that shows that people who serve others are generally the most happy. Given that we have actually had an entire generation named the “me generation,” I find this list to be fascinating.

Food for thought, isn’t it? Would all of us be more happy if we served more people?

We should absolutely serve more people! I have the utmost respect for the types of professions mentioned above. My brother is a physical therapist and finds his job very rewarding. I’d love to ultimately teach, and may do that some day.

I think those who are mean to wait staff and the airline staff checking you in should be forced to walk a mile in their shoes. Berating people or treating them poorly just shows you have no idea what’s important in life. People need to grow up and learn to respect others!

This blog is a great way you reach out and serve the community, and we appreciate you for it, Bruce! You’re a great communicator, motivator, and teacher to us all.

Thomas, thank you for the kind words my friend.

You are so right about there being too many people who are mean to those in service positions. And I agree with you that they do not have a clue as to what’s important in life.
