Remembering John Kennedy

Forty-five years ago today, President John Fitzgerald Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas Texas.

I still remember it clearly. A freshman in high school, going through initiation day, it was the first time hearing a news event made me sick at my stomach.

Even today it is hard to imagine how this tragic event could happen. It certainly turned history.

If you have ever seen the movie Thirteen Days, or read the book, you could conclude that Kennedy’s brilliance, persistence, and good judgment saved the world from a nuclear holocaust. He also did more for science and technology than any other President. His vision to land men on the moon not only accomplished the landing, it also gave us a lot of “spin-off” technology that we take for granted (from teflon coating to electronics).

He gave a lot to the world, and it is an extraordinary tragedy that his life was cut short.
