Fingerstyle Guitar mp3’s
I’ve been playing Jerry Reed and Chet Atkins style guitar for a long time, and decided to make several of my tunes available for you.
All of these were recorded with a USB microphone plugged into my iMac. For portions of some tunes, I use a second track to harmonize with myself. There are about 40 tunes so far. All are free mp3’s.
- Wabash Cannonball, fashioned after the style of the fabulous Jerry Reed.
- All The Lonely People, my unique arrangement of an old Beatles classic.
- Hallelujah I Love Her So, my arrangement of a Ray Charles classic.
- 8 More Miles to Louisville, I had a good time playing this one.
- Jiffy Jam, an upbeat Jerry Reed composition. A bit difficult to play, but fun.
- Lady Madonna, I love this tune. A bit complicated, but fun.
- Yes Sir, some messing around in E minor.
- Amazing Grace, V2, My second rendition of one of my favorite tunes.
- Winter Walkin, one of my faves.
- Walking With Vickie, one of the many tunes I have composed in honor of my late wife.
- Summertime, just a guy (me) having fun.
- An Everyday Tune, featuring my rolling chimes on the first of the tune.
- Thumbs, an original. I gave it this name because I use some non-standard thumb-work in it.
- Nine Pound Hammer, written and originally recorded by the legendary Merle Travis.
- Farther Along, one of my favorite gospel songs.
- Mood and Funk, a tune that starts out with some peaceful mood music, then moves into some Jerry Reed style funk.
- Jayree, a medley of a couple of Jerry Reed’s tunes: Struttin’ and Papa’s Knee.
- Windy and Warm, the first tune I ever learned, oh so many years ago.
- Lethal Weapon and House of Gold, I know: what an odd combination of tunes for a medley. Turned out pretty well, though.
- D Minor Ditty, a Keener Original, played in an Open D tuning.
- God Is God, based on a song written by the late Truman Mulkey (if memory serves) and recorded by my Mom and Dad on one of their Country Gospel Albums years and years ago.
- Putzin Around, another Keener original. This was a fun tune to play.
- D Major Ditty, another Keener Original (as far as I know).
- Rhythm Guitar, a funky little tune that I wanted to record before I forgot it. The Alvarez strings are way dead, but that adds to the funkiness of the tune.
- Medley: How High The Moon plus Will The Circle Be Unbroken
- What’d I Say, the Ray Charles classic. I botched the tune in one spot but it is still downloaded a lot.
- Just A Closer Walk With Thee
- Really Short Ditty, a short tune I whipped up on my Gallagher.
- Old Fashioned Jeremiah, a medley of Old Fashioned Love Song and Jeremiah Was A Bullfrog.
- Solitaire (sorta), my arrangement of Jane Oliver’s lovely song.
- Georgia On My Mind, another Ray Charles classic.
- Mr Reed, a little ditty I put together as a tribute to the creative genius of Jerry Reed.
- Short Stuff, a short little tune for my friend Stefan.
- Medley: Mine Eyes Have Seen The Glory and Precious Memories (one verse of each).
- Old Fashioned Love Song
- Practice, so named because, even though it’s one of mine, the more I practiced it today the harder it got to play … so, I said to heck with it and uploaded it anyway.
- Who Knows, possibly an original of mine, possibly a variation on a tune someone else made up. I dun’t know which.
- Were You There
- Don’t Know What To Call It, a short tune I made up.
- The Coca Cola Tune. Many years ago, a Coca Cola commercial made this song popular for a while. I’ve always called it the “Coca Cola Tune,” but I think it’s real name is “I’d Like To Teach The World To Sing.”
- Simple, short and simple.
- Reed It, a collection of Jerry-Reed-type licks that I threw together and named after him.
- Amazing Grace, my original rendition of this all-time-favorite. I prefer my second rendition (see the top of the list), but some people prefer this one.
- Papa’s Knee, my first recording of one of my favorite tunes. I expect to re-record it one day.
- Peaceful
- Chester, I know: how dare I name a tune after the great Chet Atkins? Well, this is just a simple tribute to him via a simple tune. He, my Dad, Jerry Reed, and Merle Travis influenced my playing more than any guitarists. In more recent years, I have been influenced by the tunes of Thom Bresh and Buster B. Jones. I admire and am grateful to them all.
Enjoy!
