Yesterday I was somewhat critical of Twitter and FaceBook and other social media applications. Then Robert Scoble’s and Shel Israel’s book arrived from Amazon: Naked Conversations: How Blogs are Changing the Way Businesses Talk with Customers.
I am not very far into yet, but it is invigorating me with regard to blogging and with regard to being more open-minded about social media in general. I remember when blogging came on the scene, I was critical of it and thought it would never amount to anything except a bunch of political gambits airing their views for a few to read. And now I am blogging myself, and I read tons of other blogs.
So I got to thinking about Twitter and decided to give it a spin. I signed up for it last night and found a plug-in that lets me show my latest “Tweets” on the sidebar. So far, one of our blog readers and fellow “Tweeter” has signed up to “follow me” on Twitter and I have reciprocated. Note that you can always view the sidebar to see what my current plans and actions are. Of course I am not going to tell you every boring little thing I do, but I may Tweet that I am working on such-and-such topic for the next blog entry, or may tell you other things that I think are at least semi-worthy of sharing.
One thing that convinced me to give Twitter a spin was TwitterVision. Spending a few minutes watching that will fascinate you. It shows Twitter posts going on all of the world. Absolutely fascinating to watch.
Anyway, I am glad Scoble and Israel reminded me to be a bit more open-minded. I always try to be open-minded, but sometimes I fall short at it.
One thing about that book. I understand the co-author gets just a bit touchy when his name is not acknowledged. Particularly when he worked so hard on writing it. You might consider crediting him as well if you mention Naked Conversations again.
Your right, Shel. What the hell was I thinking (answer: I wasn’t thinking).
Fixed. Will be spending the weekend reading it. You did a hell of a lot of work on this book. Great reading. Hopefully this old man (me) will learn from it.
