I keep forgetting about Android, but you are right. And, HTC is a top-notch manufacturer.

Another potential reason to use Google Apps is that once Android devices come out, they should have great integration with Google Calendar, etc. With great manufacturers like HTC on board to make Android devices, I could really see using Google Calendar and other apps exclusively.

Agreed on the sync technology, Bruce. That's why I still have Exchange for now - it works with Outlook, BlackBerry, and WinMo. Still really digging the BB, they just need to resolve those server issues.

The thing is that the services listed can be used on any device, they just don't necessarily sync. You can use RTM and GCal via SMS, mobile-optimized web pages (including cool special ones for the iPhone), etc. So the data is accessible, it's just not locally stored. That's the next thing I would love to see attacked on these types of services.

It would if I cared anything about Windows Mobile. My point is : I don't want my sync technology to depend on what device I happen to like at the moment. I'd like for it to work on Win Mo or BlackBerry or iPhone or ....

But, yup, Google buying up RTM might work pretty nicely.

Google just needs to buy Remember the Milk and come up with a full Contacts API and sync capability and things would be perfect. RTM is "Google-like" enough, though for my tastes.

I didn't know about the Plaxo sync with Windows Mobile. That may be right up your alley, Bruce!

Hi John,

Thanks for sharing how you are living in the cloud. Sounds like it is working out very nicely for you.

I have not tried Box.net but seems to be getting some good press. I've been pleased with Amazon's S3 as a remote storage for files (mostly for backup purposes) ... not quiet the same as Box.net, but I do trust Amazon completely when it comes to security.

Again, thanks for sharing.

I've been living "in the cloud" for about six months now - Plaxo, Fastmail, Bloglines. I've played with GCal and GMail, and am strangely attracted to Google Docs. But my main concern remains the privacy of my data - I don't know that I trust Google to keep my data safe and "secret". Hence my use of paid services.

Fastmail aggregates all my IMAP and POP mailboxes (through the use of account redirects, easy because I admin all my services). Plaxo paid gives me OTA sync for my Sprint WM6 phone. Bloglines so I can read my important feeds anywhere.

The only unresolved problem is what to do about my data files - Box.net or the like? I haven't yet decided. But so far Plaxo, Fastmail and Bloglines have been a stunning success.
