Thomas, you are so right that Google is making online PIM use so attractive, and the options are only bound to improve. I too await their Tasks apps.

I still have it in mind that I will get an iPhone at some point, and it tickles me that I will be able to do so much with it without having to load any apps.

With the new iPhone-optimized interface for Google coming available, it's definitely making Google's applications (including Gmail) more useful and putting everything online is becoming easier with it. I still would like to see a good native way to sync with all of Google's services over-the-air (OTA), but I'm sure that will be coming soon. IMAP access is a huge win for iPhone and other mobile device users in general.

Now that Google Notebook now has a mobile version as well, you have the majority of PIM features available as long as you have a connection (on your iPhone or otherwise).

Now, Google just needs to do a really good tasks application, like Remember the Milk (though its Google integration is very good) and they would be a complete solution.

Clearly, it is getting easier and easier to "live in the cloud."

On the subject of Google Calendar - Jott now interfaces nicely with GooCal. Set up the link, call Jott and say something like "meet with Richard Branson, Tuesday at 10am" and Jott will dutifully add it to your calendar. Another service I've started playing with is Sandy (iwantsandy.com) It works with Jott as well. Sandy bills itself as kind of a personal assistant. You can do things like "remind me to feed the parking meter in 45 minutes" or "remind me to buy flowers for my wife on February 14". You can also tag data and just have Sandy remember it for you for later retrieval. I use it for keeping a running grocery list, among other things.
