Links for 2009-05-14

The last of these is a reminder that we are pouring a lot of money into understanding what makes us tick, as well as into finding cures for all that ails us. I wanted to start the links off with an article on the use of nanotechnology in fighting cancer, particularly since it involved my alma mater, but alas: the link to the article no longer works, and it appears that it has been retracted. Here’s what showed up in my feed reader, but is no longer accessible:

Nanotech and cancer

This (apparently retracted) story reminded me of predictions about use of nanotechnology in healing and modifying our bodies, along with predictions that artificial intelligence will be so smart in 25-40 years that we will not be able to understand it. Couple that with medical and nanotech advances, and it’s not too hard to imagine that AI will help us control our own evolution.

I don’t know about you, but that just fascinates me. It is definitely incentive to make sure our kids and grandkids have the best educations we can give them: the world is quickly growing more complex.
