Knowing When To Be Quiet

Windows 7 was released yesterday, and Apple decided to release some new Mac versus Windows ads then, too.

Although I normally like the Mac vs Windows ads, yesterday they just turned me off. It was Microsoft’s big day, a day where it earned some good attention for cleaning up the mess it had made with Vista, and Apple decided to show ads to deflect the attention to itself. Reminds me of a jealous person who sees someone else getting some attention, and then tries to steal the attention. Brings to mind some memories of when I should have kept my mouth shut.

I understand competition. I believe it has considerable value. But, I would think more highly of Apple if they had just stayed quiet for once.

Bruce, really appreciated the reminder of this blog post — a reminder that we need to consider civility. It is all to easy to get caught up in the fight and step on other people (companies) for our own advancement. We see so much of this in business, politics, the work place, sports, etc. Can’t we actually stop and root for the other guy to succeed sometimes. This post has given me pause to evaluate my own life. Thanks! “I needed that!!”

It reminds me of an event I read about this past year of a football team from a troubled boys school who played another team. The players on the boy’s school couldn’t believe the other team and cheerleaders were actually cheering for them on plays and touchdowns. They were used to hostility. Maybe try a little kindness?! Great post.
