Quote of the Week:

Fingerstyle Guitar Tunes

I’ve been playing Jerry Reed and Chet Atkins style guitar since I was a pup, and decided to make several of my tunes available for you.

All of these were recorded with a USB microphone plugged into my iMac. For portions of some tunes, I use a second track to harmonize with myself. There are about 50 tunes so far. The tunes are organized into two sections: the first has a Flash music player to play back my versions of selected tunes composed by others; it is followed by a section with a recording of my originals (plus a few traditional gospel tunes).

I hope you enjoy!

My Playing of Selected Popular Music:

Just mouse over the tunes until you see one you want to play, then click it. You can use the scroll bar on the side of the player to see more tunes. (Sorry for the small font size in the player: I’m looking for a flash player that is more attractive and a bit easier to use.)

This space reserved for Flash MP3 player

My Original Music plus Selected Traditional Hymns:

You can freely download the following tunes for your own use.

  • Victoria, a favorite of my compositions.
  • God Rest You Buster, a tune I composed in memory of the late Buster B Jones. The tune is played on a Godin he autographed for me.
  • An Everyday Tune, featuring my rolling chimes.
  • Yes Sir, some messing around in E minor.
  • Amazing Grace, I use a bit of the strumming style of Doyle Dykes in this classic, sacred tune.
  • Walking With Vickie, one of the many tunes I have composed in honor of my late wife.
  • For Buster, a tune I put together for Buster B Jones a couple of months before he passed away
  • Piddling, the first tune I recorded on my Godin. One of my originals.
  • Thumbs, an original. I gave it this name because I use some non-standard thumb-work in it.
  • Farther Along, one of my favorite gospel songs.
  • Dutchess, a tune in memory of a former pet (a very sweet dog)
  • Mood and Funk, a tune that starts out with some peaceful mood music, then moves into some Jerry Reed style funk.
  • D Minor Ditty, a Keener Original, played in an Open D tuning.
  • God Is God, based on a song written by the late Truman Mulkey (if memory serves) and recorded by my Mom and Dad on one of their Country Gospel Albums years and years ago.
  • Putzin Around, another Keener original. This was a fun tune to play.
  • D Major Ditty, another Keener Original (as far as I know).
  • Mr Reed, a little ditty I put together as a tribute to the creative genius of Jerry Reed.
  • Short Stuff, a short little tune for my friend Stefan.
  • Medley: Mine Eyes Have Seen The Glory and Precious Memories (one verse of each).
  • Practice, so named because, even though it’s one of mine, the more I practiced it today the harder it got to play … so, I said to heck with it and uploaded it anyway.
  • Who Knows, possibly an original of mine, possibly a variation on a tune someone else made up. I dun’t know which.
  • Were You There
  • Don’t Know What To Call It, a short tune I made up.
  • Simple, short and simple.
  • Reed It, a collection of Jerry-Reed-type licks that I threw together and named after him.
  • Peaceful
  • Chester, I know: how dare I name a tune after the great Chet Atkins? Well, this is just a simple tribute to him via a simple tune.
