I was reading a friend’s Rules To Live By on his Facebook page this morning and thought I’d share two of his rules with you:
- Just because it’s different doesn’t make it wrong.
- A difference, which makes no difference, is no difference.
Good rules, eh?
I became aware of the first rule years ago, and have tried to keep it in mind every time I see something “different” or someone who believes differently. It seems to me that we have a built-in urge to classify things that are different as “wrong,” and so we need to remind ourselves that this is not necessarily true.
The second rule is new to me. There have been many times when I have changed something, just to make a change, and it had no impact. So the rule is a reminder that only meaningful change makes a difference.
