I am so fortunate to have a wonderful brother. We do not talk very often, but I always enjoy it when we do.
Last night I called him to ask a few questions and after the call there was a “new tune” in my head, so I reached for my guitar and played it a few times. Then, I decided to record it and then I sent it to David as his tune. He wanted me to share it with you, so here it is:
As far as I know, this tune is original. I just play whatever music is in my head, and frequently that music is original and, just as often, it is something I have heard before. This may be a tune I have heard before and I just can’t recall who did it.
Regardless, David likes it and I hope you do, too.
Note: The full collection of my free recordings is available at this link.
Nice stuff. Have you ever thought about dipping your toes into the world of home recording? It’s yet another area of technology to explore… This is quite a nice tune, BTW, and well executed too. Hopefully I haven’t said all this before… I’m having some serious deja vu right now…!
Thanks for the compliment, capo.
I really should look into getting some recording equipment. You wouldn’t believe how much hassle I have to put myself through to record with Garageband and the cheap USB mic I have. I have to set right in front of the iMac, slant my guitar to about 30 degrees to be close enough to the mic, use the mouse to start recording, and use the spacebar when done.
Setting cramped like that makes me very error prone (notice the error at the end of the tune?), and the mic is absolute cheapo stuff (a $25 Logitech USB mike), so it doesn’t get the full balance of the strings: it definitely emphasizes the ones that are closest to it (the treble strings). That’s one of the reasons I don’t record more: it’s such a pain in the ass (literally) and doesn’t really sound like it should either. But, many folks enjoy it, and it keeps me from totally wasting my talent.
To do my best with this, I really should get some decent recording equipment. So many things I’d like to buy, but not enough money to get all of it, ya know.
Anyway, thanks again.
Bruce,
…I am the one that is fortunate. I do indeed like the song (( I think it has a little of the same melody as “Ask John” ( recorded by Buster B Jones )).
Sorry I haven’t been able to post more comments, but I have been extremely busy at work. Hopefully I will be able to visit and post more often.
David
David,
I’m delighted you found a bit of time to stop by — I know your schedule has been extremely hectic. I hope it settles out for you soon. As we discussed last night, life is indeed short.
Thanks for all the compliments … I take the comparison to Ask John as a compliment, too.
Just got back from lunch at Rose’s, a great home-style place, and listened to Buster and Bresh’s Pickin’ and Foolin’/Stumpwater at least three times. I love those guys. Huge talents.
Later,
Bruce
