My friend John Sagers, a professor of Asian history, has recently started a blog entitled Adapting to Change. John summarizes the purpose of the blog as follows:
This blog is about life transitions and learning how to navigate them. I am a historian who studies how Japanese people in the late 1800s learned new skills to replace samurai warrior rule with a modern industrial economy. Though maybe not as dramatic, I think all of us face times in our lives when we are forced to rapidly take on new roles and adapt to changing circumstances. Entering and graduating from college, changing careers, and taking on additional responsibilities are just a few examples of when we have to learn a lot quickly. The short comments on Asian history, reviews of books and web resources, and practical tips for college and personal success are designed to encourage us all in a lifetime of learning.
I am glad to see John contributing his expertise in such an important area. Change is a constant factor in most of our lives, and John’s perspectives on it give us insights on navigating through changes. Learning lessons from history regarding change is an excellent approach. As Santayana said: “Those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it.”
I encourage you to check into John’s blog and to subscribe to it in your feed reader as I have done.
