A Reminder about Your Smartphone/Pocket PC Memory

I recently picked up my Dell x51v for the first time in a couple of weeks. In doing so, I remembered I had not run my system maintenance utilities in a while, so I ran MemMaid to clean out the memory. It cleaned out 8.93 MB from my internet cache! That is the most it has ever cleaned out, and this showed to me that I had become lax in keeping my memory clean. So, I went ahead and ran SkTools Lite on my Dash and it cleaned out over 3MB on it.

I figured that if someone who is as memory conscious as I have been over the years has forgotten to do this maintenance for a while, that it might be good to remind you to do so, too.

Note that this especially important if you who have a device that has been upgraded from Windows Mobile 2003 to WM5. You really pay a performance penalty on those devices if you don’t keep the memory clean. In fact, ideally, you should move your internet cache to an SD card to keep it from thrashing your main memory. MemMaid and the full version of SkTools both let you do this. Both of these are great utilities, by the way, and give you several maintenance tools that can help keep your device in good working order.
