While napping a lot this week, trying to recover from a nasty cold, a tune formed in my head and I figured I might as well play it and share it with you folks.
So, I pulled out my late Dad’s Gallagher guitar, serial number 777 (truly), and sat down at my iMac and here is what came out:
I have no idea if it is a previously written song. It’s basically just simple chords, so someone has no doubt written a tune just like it (there are probably a hundred just like it). However, not knowing a name, I assigned it one. It’s only a minute and 16 seconds long. Nonetheless, I hope you enjoy.

I played guitar (badly) during my youth. I know how tough it is to solo on the guitar. You have to provide both rhythm and melody, bass line and lead guitar all at once. You do it well.
I’m a hard rock fan myself (favorite band is Rush to give one a point of reference) and probably not as well-versed in other styles as I ought to be. Was this ditty country-western? Folk? Some hybrid? Or something else entirely?
Also, were you finger-picking? If so, do you use your bare hands or those little picks that you can fit on the tips of your fingers?

As to the questions: I’m not sure what genre this one would fit in. I’d call it funk, but I am not very good at binning tunes into a genre, except for the obvious one. As to the picking: yes, finger picking with a thumb pick and with my finger nails. I use my nails instead of the add-on finger picks or tips, as that is how I learned when I dabbled with classical, many years ago.
I’m not much of a hard-rock fan, although it is certainly popular. I do enjoy a pretty wide variety in music, though.
