A Few Links Before the Long Weekend

I’ve decided to take another long weekend, and that will likely become my norm. But, I wanted to share a few links that have come to my attention first.

Thomas shared a couple of interesting links with me this morning:

  • The post by Adama Brown at BrightHand, along with corresponding comments, on The Case For Separation. Somewhat relates to comments I made recently on my disappointments with Windows Mobile Smartphones. Not a one-to-one relation to my thinking, but interesting points.
  • Pocket PC Techs is offering a 128MB RAM upgrade for Dell x51v’s. I am giving some thought to doing this with my x51v. PPC Techs has a fantastic reputation for quality work. A friend of mine had a couple of his devices upgraded to 128MB RAM by them and was very pleased with it. If you have an x51v and would like to get more mileage out of it, this could be the way to go for you.

James Kendrick of jkOnTheRun has an interesting article on Verizon’s plans to offer an update to the BlackBerry 8830 that would restore the device’s GPS functionality. He also indicated that Verizon has completed an upgrade to their EV-DO network, making all of it Grade A. One of the reasons I have been holding off on deciding whether to get a BlackBerry near-term or “later” is that I am taking my time deciding which carrier I really want to go with. I currently have AT&T, and of course they have the appealing BlackBerry Curve. I also have T-Mobile, for my Dash. But, I am thinking it makes no sense for me to continue with two carriers, and I am thinking I may still do enough traveling to want to ensure I get the carrier with the best coverage. While AT&T continues to improve its coverage, I did have Verizon at one time and my recollection is that their coverage was a bit better, and sounds like it is continuing to improve as well. So, I’ll continue to mull on that, and the news from James will factor into my decision.

Anyway, have a great weekend. I do not expect to post again until Monday, but could change my mind if something really interesting crops up.

I can vouch for PocketPC Techs as well. Not cheap, but they do quality work, are very professional and very quick. Good idea taking regular long weekends. Enjoy your life, we’ll all be here when you come back :-) .
