iPod Touch 2.0 Upgrade: Gut Reaction

in Gadgets

The purposes of this post are to just let you know:

  • My initial impression of the iPod Touch 2.0 upgrade.
  • That I have updated my iPod Touch as a PDA and Entertainer article to address some 2.0 features, and especially to include discussion of a task application that makes the Touch and outstanding PDA.

As to my first impression: I loves it!
Fantastic job by Apple and by the application developers who are providing third-party apps.

I can actually start seriously thinking about boxing up my Pocket PC and not using it anymore. The Touch is that good.

Anyway, I want operate the Touch 2.0 for a few days before I do any detailed write-up on it. I just wanted to let you know I am tickled with it so far, and also wanted you to know about the article update I did. I’d appreciate your comments and feedback on it. That particular article receives a lot of visitors and is key to the first impressions many people have of this site.

It is truly a great device, and I am having a lot of fun with it. It is also very practical.

Thanks for mentioning your article. You really did a great write-up on that.

I’m glad that you like the update on the Touch. It really reminds me of the days when there was just high-quality software on the Palm and Palm used to issue OS updates that you could buy on CDs. Those were the days - completely new base functionality for the fraction of the cost of a new device!

I totally agree with you on the potential of ditching the Windows Mobile device. Based on my earlier thoughts on what the new software means, I’m very close to having my core apps on an iPhone 2.0-based OS device.
