Carl Icahn Works on Ousting Yahoo Board

This topic is off the beaten path for us, but it fascinates me, so I thought I would share it. Search Engine Land, an excellent and informative site for bloggers (and many others), has an article today on Carl Icahn’s bid to oust the Yahoo Board.

Icahn is a fascinating character. Whether you agree with his style or not, there is little argument that he is a no-nonsense businessman.

If Icahn succeeds, are Yahoo shareholders going to be any better because of it? What about the employees? Most importantly of all, what about the millions of customers, those who rely on one or more of Yahoo’s services? I have no crystal ball for this, of course … we’ll just have to see how it all unfolds.

I also have mixed views on whether Jerry Yang should be set aside. On one hand, I would hate to see him ditched after he has done so much to create the internet as we know it. [Contrary to "popular belief", he has had more to do with it becoming what it has than Al Gore has. :-) ] On the other hand, business is business, and a business has responsibilities to its shareholders, employees, customers, and community.

Feel free to share your thoughts and insights on this. As I noted earlier, it is a bit off-topic for us, but interesting nonetheless.
