About 10 days ago I wrote a post highlighting a good person (Jennifer), someone who inspires me and who I think would inspire you. This is something I want to keep doing periodically. Hence this post.
Today I want to highlight entrepreneur and exceptional blogger Guy Kawasaki. I do not know Guy personally, but I am learning that he practices what he preaches. There is too little of that in this world, which is why I want to call attention to him.
One of the things that Guy preaches is exceptional customer service. And, he exemplifies it so well in, of all places, his Twitter interactions. Guy is one of the top people in the Twitterati, having close to 10,000 Twitter followers. It’s amazing to me that he follows everyone who follows him. What is even more amazing, is that if you “tweet” him directly, via @GuyKawasaki, he actually replies! He has done it consistently with me, and doesn’t know me from Adam, as the saying goes.
There are a few top bloggers that I have tried to communicate with, trying to get them to link to an article of mine that I thought might be worthy of their readers’ attention, but I never heard back from them. I could not determine whether they did not like my articles, or whether they just did not practice what they preach.
So, when I learned that Kawasaki practices what he preaches, I did not hesitate to buy his latest book: The Art of the Start: The Time-Tested, Battle-Hardened Guide for Anyone Starting Anything. I’m not very deep into the book, yet, but I am learning from it.
Another thing I really like about Guy is that he has discovered that he has a talent for writing, and he is using that talent to help others. He has a gift for explaining what it takes to be a successful entrepreneur. I am delighted to seeing him using that talent. Regular readers have often seen me talk about how important it is to recognize your talents and to put them to use. In my view, talents are gift from God, and failing to use them keeps us from being all we are meant to be, to God and to ourselves and to others.
Anyway, I am impressed with this young man. No doubt there are other top bloggers that are as good as practicing what they preach as Guy is. But, there are certainly some who are not.
Two final points on this:
- I think I have been doing a decent job of practicing what I preach, although God knows I am far from perfect. But, I do try to help you learn from my failures as well as my successes. Maybe I need to be doing even more sharing of what I have learned from failures. I’ll give some thought to that. I do know this: if I ever come off as being hypocritical, please, please let me know.
- As I noted in my previous Good People post, I would love to hear from you on people you think should be highlighted. (Jennifer gave me a great idea for that in the comments on the post I wrote on her, and I will follow through on her suggestion for next week’s GP article.)

That’s great to hear! Thanks for the info on Bob Sutton, too.
