Jason Calacanis has written an excellent article on stress. Jason is a successful entrepreneur and blogger and knows what he is talking about.
While the subjects of the article are (or were) entrepreneurs and bloggers, his tips and insights apply to us all. Thinking back on my relationship with one of people mentioned in the article, Marc Orchant, I recall that whenever I sent Marc an email, he responded within ten minutes. And he probably got anywhere from 500 to 1,000 emails everyday. That is, Marc put a lot of stress on himself by hyper-vigilance. As Jason points out, most of the stress we have in life comes from within, from our perspectives and ways of dealing with things.
Jason’s article has made me set up and pay attention. Many of the lifestyle factors that he mentions are ones that exist in my life: I continue to smoke, as I have done for 37 years, I eat whatever I want whenever I want, and I obsess over the statistics for this blog, worrying about how to increase subscriptions and page-views. And my exercise routine: shopping.
While it’s probably too late for me to make any big changes, Jason’s article really did get my attention. I do have some thinking to do. You can lecture me, if you want to waste your breath. But, I would prefer that you take the article to heart in your own life, and see if it might help you to reduce some stress. That’s all I’ll say about it, as it would be hypocritical for me to rant any more on it.
