Gary Vaynerchuk had the idea of a Good People Day. Here’s part of what he said about it:
I want to try to get the WHOLE INTERNET Community behind this mission I have to make sure that tomorrow people write and talk and blog and twitter and just flat out SING about people that are AWESOME and GOOD.
This GPD was supposed to be April 3, but I did not find out about it until yesterday. So, I am blogging on this topic with the view that it’s better late than never.
I could write about a huge number of good people, and have been blessed to be surrounded with good people all of my life. But, today I will highlight someone I do not even personally know, but whose writing convinces me she is an extraordinarily good person: Jennifer.
Jennifer manages a blog, of the personal diary variety, in which she talks about her conversion to Catholicism from atheism. She also talks about the difficulty of being a young mother of three children, and often discusses how hard she has to work to manage her time and to keep perspective. An excellent reminder that good life management techniques are useful for everyone, not just for those vying to climb the corporate ladder.
One of Jen’s recent articles, and a fairly representative one, is here.
I offer this link up not for any religious reasons, but rather for the following reasons:
- For one, the article is one of the more well-written articles I have ever seen on a personal blog … Jennifer’s writing style is something we can all learn from. Regular readers know that I love to see people use their talents, and Jennifer is clearly a very talented writer.
- Secondly, she talks about the importance of putting first things first. In her case, this means ensuring that her daily Liturgy of the Hours prayers are scheduled and that she keeps these appointments with herself.
So you can see why I enjoy reading several of Jen’s articles: it refreshes me to read high-quality writing, and she often has some insights that are useful to people of any religion (or those who have no religion).
It occurs to me that I really should write more of this type of post, in which I highlight someone who is doing good. What are your thoughts? Also, I’d like to hear your recommendations on future people to highlight.

Hey, thanks for what looks like a promising add to my growing feed list. I’m going to have to be careful or pretty soon I’ll have too much stuff coming in every day to process. Information is like food - you need high quality and a good variety, but not too much. The “blogosphere” is like a huge, free buffet - it takes self discipline to keep from becoming an information glutton.
Glad you like her writing, too, Lance.
You’ve got some great quotable stuff in your comment … don’t be surprised if I quote you some day.
Bruce - I’m so glad to have discovered your blog, and thank you for the link. Your “Would you know if you had ADD?” post has really got me thinking — I think I might fit into that category!
Anyway, just this morning I was chatting with someone about a life lesson that has been very helpful to me, and it seems like something you might enjoy as well. The post is here, but the gist of it is that I think that when people pursue happiness, what they’re really yearning for is peace. Just thought I’d pass that along in case you have any interest. I’ll be back!
Oh - I’m sorry for the second comment, but I just saw your note asking for suggestions of inspiring people to highlight. I’m not sure if the topic of this blogger’s writing would fit with your genre here, but I get so much inspiration out of reading a blog called Steppin’ Heavenward. It’s written by a mom who has 6 biological children and adopted three children from Africa (including two older boys). To see the love that her family has that they share with the world just lifts me up every time I read it!
Jennifer,
Bless your heart! Thank you for stopping by and for giving me two great links to look into. I think you are right when you say that we are really seeking peace, or contentment, instead of happiness. I also look very forward to reading Steppin’ Heavenward … anyone who takes on so much is bound to be full of love, and therefore inspirational.
And, thank you, again, for being such an inspiration yourself!
Best wishes to you and yours!
