I think the answer is: to Touch. That is, for me to buy an iPod Touch.
My two-year old iPod is starting to wear out, with the battery just not holding charge the way it did. So, I thought about going to Best Buy this weekend and getting an iPod Touch.
But I remembered that Apple has an announcement regarding the Touch and iPhones next Thursday, so I figured I might as well at least wait until then. I know their main announcement centers around the release of an SDK for developers, but what if they do another price drop, too?
I also figured it would be good to hear from those of you who own a Touch, to see if you have any disappointments. My current iPod does still have some life in it, and I could always do the battery replacement as an alternative to shelling out a few hundred bucks. But I am seriously leaning toward getting a Touch and would like to hear from you.

run (don’t walk)…and get one!! you won’t be sorry
The OS is very refreshing!
I haven’t had mine that long…but if you get one, we can compare “notes” on it!!
PS We can’t all go out and get a new MBP like SOMEONE else
A new “gadget” will make you feel good!
I was one of those that stood in line on iPhone release day, and I would do it again. It’s an amazing device done with Apple’s usual style and ease of use. I would highly recommend the Touch to anyone who can live within it’s storage capacity. I use smart playlists within iTunes to automagically rotate my music for me.
And btw, I’m primarily a Windows user (for a short while longer
Susan and Russell,
Thank you for the input. Sounds like waiting would only postpone the joy. I’ll either get one tomorrow, or possibly wait until Thursday’s announcements, just in case. But, sounds like I won’t be disappointed at all.
Susan, yeah I saw @geardiary’s note about getting an MBP. Good for Judie! I know I love my iMac, and probably would love an MBP. My laptop is still a Windows based machine (XP Pro with a Ubuntu boot as well), and hopefully it still has some life left in it. Not sure if my next laptop will be Windows or an MBP … I primarily use the laptop for an occasional consulting job, which generally involves the use of Windows software. Of course, I could always load Windows onto an MBP via VMware Fusion …
Anyway, thanks for the input. I am looking forward to getting “Touched.”
My girlfriend has been considering an iPhone. We look forward to your review!
I think the Touch would be perfect for you, Bruce. Get the 32 GB model - you’ll want the space. I wish that my wife’s iPhone had more capacity, as she runs short on space sometimes.
You could always upgrade the battery in your iPod anyway. It’s not very difficult with the kits out there, and you could then sell it on eBay or give it to someone who could make use of it.
I’m waiting to see what the next revision of the iPhone will be. With 3G networking and hopefully higher capacity, it may be a good phone. However, with Wifi, the Touch is very useful. Can’t wait to see how the SDK changes things and what gets released.
I’m most curious to see if the Touch ends up replacing not only your iPod, but possibly your PDA as well (Axim). It will be interesting to see what you think of it.
Hi Thomas, I am looking forward to the experience of it, too, and have had some thoughts that it could become a PDA as well as an iPod. I’ll probably get one later today and begin playing with it. I’ll write about it after I’ve put it through a few days of use.
