In implementing a fairly routine software upgrade this morning, all of my uploaded content got wiped out: all 101 MB. Good thing I had a recent backup.
I think everything is in working order now, but let me know if you encounter any problems.
What went wrong? I am not sure. I was upgrading my blogging software, and the wipe-out occurred immediately after I uploaded the upgrade.
I think it could be related to my use of a new FTP client: Forklift. Possibly, just possibly, that FTP client overwrote everything. But I do not want to blame it prematurely. I have only used it for a few days, and was thinking about buying it to replace my normal FTP client (CyberDuck). Obviously I am rethinking that now.
I will finish up my vacation tomorrow or Tuesday and will begin posting again then.
Happy Holidays!

Forklift and CyberDuck??
Maybe something more technological sounding like MasterMind or FTP MaxMan might work better.

yeah, strange names, huh. Actually they are supposedly top-rated Mac FTP clients, and I had been using CyberDuck (donation ware) without a hitch until recently and then it started acting buggy. I was trying out Forklift because it also connects to Amazon S3. Guess I will also try out the highest rated one, Transmit, since it also does an S3 connect. This was a good reminder to me, too, to do a backup on S3.

Transmit is great (including its S3 support). For a free program, I use Fugu [1] to do my uploading, but I always use SFTP (not sure if you can log into your domain host securely via SSH or not). Fugu, combined with SSH Tunnel Manager [2] (like Keychain for your SSH logins) is all I need.
For S3, there is S3Fox for Firefox, but I like JungleDisk [3]. It’s a one-time fee of $20, and they’re adding support for regular S3 buckets. It’s available for Mac/Linux/Windows, and they even have a version that runs all 3 executables on a USB drive. You could use JungleDisk to mount the S3 space locally and then copy the files over directly.

Hi Thomas,
I have used Jungledisk and S3 Fox. I like Jungledisk for setting up a directory, because it lets me choose a sensible name, and had used S3 Fox a good bit for uploading to an existing directory. I do need to give Transmit a try, though, and will also look at Fugu, which I had not heard of.
Thanks much!
