Just came across this article in Yahoo! news that says that Apple’s Boot Camp Beta will expire when the Leopard OS is released.
I use Boot Camp on my iMac to provide a partition for Windows XP Pro, which I access through VMware Fusion. So now I learn that I will either have to upgrade to Leopard (which I would probably have done anyway), or use VMware Fusion to do a fresh install of Windows.
And while I do not yet own an iPhone, it upsets me how Apple is taking a stance on locking out iPhone third party apps.
I love my iMac. I love my iPod. And, I guess if had an iPhone I would love it, too. But Apple’s policies leaving me scratching my head: are they trying to keep people from liking them? Has Bill Gates paid Steve Jobs a few billion to sabotage Apple? What’s going on here?

It sounds like you’d relate to Mark Hershberger.
Hi Jeremy. I don’t really believe Apple needs to be open source. I do wish they would get back to being more customer-minded though. What really pisses me off is that they were gaining some momentum, and I had hopes that they would gain more than a feeble share of the computing market, and then I see them do crap like this. I know Jobs is smarter than his competition, so I can’t figure what gives with him.
They’ve actually always said it was a beta and would be included in Leopard, but many people ignore or forgot that fact. I think the part that was unclear was whether it would be available for Tiger as an add-on option.
Apple is an innovative company and they push the limits all the time. This is exciting, but also frustrating sometimes as well. They push forward and make their technology obsolete frequently. This is good and bad at the same time.
Good points, Thomas.
I have recently learned that my partition will not expire, just that I would not be able to create a new one using BootCamp. So, it turns out that I will not really not have to upgrade to Leopard, but I will likely do so.
