Do You Know Your Strengths And Talents?

As I look back on my 32 years as a business professional, a lot of things give me a sense of satisfaction, and a lot of good memories come to mind. But a disturbing thing that comes to mind, and I’m sure you’ve seen it too, is the number of people whose talents were not recognized within their organizations. Even worse: many of these people were unaware of their own talents and strengths. I’ve seen this time and time again. Of course no company can make use of all of the talents of its employees, but my sense is that we can do much better. So much potential goes untapped.

It is incredibly sad that a lot of people will go their graves

  • without ever having discovered some of their talents
  • without having recognized and played to their own strengths

I hope you are not going to be among that vast crowd, and encourage you to spend whatever time it takes to get to know your talents and strengths. Often these have something to do with what you like to do, or what you can do easily that those around you cannot do so easily.

For managers and executives: if your company does not have a process for seeking out the talent and identifying the strengths of your employees, putting one in place would do you, your company, and your employees a world of good.
