MobilitySite reported that Palm announced that it will make a Windows Mobile 6 upgrade available for the Treo 750:
Palm, Inc. today announced that an update to the Windows Mobile 6 Professional operating system will be available for Treo 750 smartphone customers around the world. The Treo 750 is available from carriers in the United States, Europe and Asia and remains a key part of Palm’s international expansion strategy to make Treo smartphones available to more customers. For AT&T customers, the update also will facilitate High-speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) capability allowing faster data-download speeds on 3G/UMTS/HSDPA networks.
Although certainly not a deciding factor for me, one of the several reasons I got a T-Mobile Dash Smartphone is that it is also slated to receive a WM6 upgrade within the next few months.
It’s good to see at least a few planned WM6 upgrades. Historically device manufacturers and cellphone carriers have been slow in providing operating system upgrades, if they provided them at all. So, hopefully we are seeing a trend toward improvement.
Update: I subsequently upgraded my Dash to WM6, and the process went smoothly. There was a problem with alarms, but I fixed that.
